Elizabeth Dinkel Design Trade Superstar Runner Up — Kitchen/Bath
Elizabeth Dinkel of Elizabeth Dinkel Design Associates, Inc. in
West Hollywood, California, chose a design inspired by the natural landscape
of the Pacific Northwest for this kitchen in Seattle, Washington. The open
floor plan provides breathtaking view of the water from the kitchen, dining
and great room. Dinkel selected building and surfacing materials that echoed
the earthy sensibility of the project, including fir cabinetry and granite
countertops. The client's only request was that the kitchen be warm and
inviting. DInkel accomplished this using natural materials and a clean
aesthetic. Among the products Dinkel used for this kitchen installation are
Holly Hunt pendant lights and McGuire's Prescott Barstools upholstered with
Jerry Pair leather. "Everything in this kitchen is functional and serves a
purpose, yet it doesn't feel antiseptic," states Dinkel, who believes the
warmth of this kitchen makes it the heart and soul of the house.
Recognized by several shelter publications as one of America's
leading interior designers, Dinkel founded her own design firm in 2004 after
18 years in the interior design world. Her creative use of color choices and
unexpected mix of modern and antique has earned her clients from San Francisco
to New York, and everywhere in between. Her career began after she earned her
undergraduate decree in international relations at Georgetown University when
she began an apprenticeship with Leta Austin Foster & Associates of Palm Beach
and New York — her mother's renowned design firm. During her apprenticeship,
she studied both architecture and interior design at the New York School of
Interior Design and Parson's School of Design.
