Kelly James Design Trade Superstar Runner Up — Home Office
The home office of Kelly James' Ottawa, Ontario, home is a true
reflection of
James, who designed the room. Measuring a mere 9' x 11', the room packs a
powerful punch and reflects her love of writing. James and her husband pulled
out the damaged parquet floor and replaced it with zebrano laminate, then her
husband covered the exposed pipes and steal beam of this basement office with
drywall. They designed and installed a drop ceiling that looks like a coffered
ceiling and put in pot lights. The desk base was also designed by James and
her husband and crafted from walnut and purple heartwood, then topped it with
a glass desktop from Ikea.
James wanted her home office to be a creative and inspiring space for her to
write. The letter mural on the walls helps get her creative juices flowing. To
make the mural, James created it in Adobe Illustrator, then found a printer
that could print the words on silver vinyl. She states this method was much
easier and faster than hand-painting the words, which she tried before finding
the vinyl. "And the silver vinyl adds some dimension to the walls," she quips.
