Cecilia Staniec & Kim Neidel Design Trade Superstar Runner Up — Bedroom
This bedroom was one of four rooms in a makeover project designers
Cecilia
Staniec and Kim Neidel of A Darling Room near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
completed in only three days. According to Staniec, "the original room felt
cold and boring, and lacked a sense of the client's personality." The client
wanted color incorporated into the room and Staniec and Neidel wanted the room
to exude the sweet vibrancy of its owner.
The team's first step was color. Since the bedroom was small, they didn't want
too much color to overwhelm the space. A deep red color by Sherwin-Williams on
the wall behind the bed visually widens the room and creates a focal point for
the four-poster bed.
Staniec selected two long metal console tables to serve as bedside tables,
using their width to balance out the king size bed. Similar pieces of art hang
above the tables, and bronze lamps and tall accessories sit atop them. The
rolled-arm bench placed at the foot of the bed also visually breaks up the
large expanse of the bed.
Silk throws, pillows and a coverlet in creamy neutrals and chocolate browns
add elegance to the room. Staniec topped the room off with rich brown silk
drapery panels, which brought instant drama and character.
The end result is a luxurious room in which one can relax or revitalize.
Staniec proved that beautiful rooms are attainable regardless of the budget,
which in this case was a $2,000 donation from Kirkland's and an additional
$500.
Staniec's love of design began in college when she took art and color theory
classes. After graduating, she entered the corporate world, designing in her
free time for friends and colleagues. Getting hands-on design experience
convinced Staniec to open her own design company. As the principle designer
for A Darling Room, she personally oversees each project and strives to
enhance the beauty and function of a home.
