Imagine cruising through the open water at 31 knots, that’s 35 miles per hour for those of us not nautically inclined, in Lazzara Yacht’s newest sport express yacht model, the LSX 92. After finding the perfect spot to drop anchor, you and your guests take advantage of one of the yacht’s unique features and descend to the aft beach deck — a luxurious 120-square-foot teak deck equipped with a 60-inch television and surround sound. While not in use, the aft beach deck houses a Novurania yacht tender and Waverunner.
This sleek marvel of modern engineering is the prototype for the new model, built in just over 10 months — setting a new record for a prototype build. Debuted at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, the LSX 92 received the Yachts Magazine Best Interior Award in Cannes, France, last year. Based in Tampa, Florida, Lazzara Yachts has more than 50 years experience in the boat building industry. With the LSX 92, the family-owned company set out to “explore and achieve new dimensions of functionality, comfort and performance,” according to Richard Lazzara, president and cofounder, and they have achieved just that. In addition to the aft beach deck, the LSX 92 has several other features not seen before on a yacht this size, such as the eight-foot-square terrace that folds down from the side of the hull off the master stateroom with the push of a button. An interior Jacuzzi faces the all-glass wall that is revealed once the terrace is lowered. Removable rails and folding furniture make this innovative terrace a great place to enjoy breakfast or watch a stunning sunset.
Located on the main deck, the master stateroom features a succession of three large windows on either side that emphasize the yacht’s relationship with the sea. Viewed from the outside, the windows, set at an angle, gives the impression of sleek gills. A smart glass wall that turns opaque for privacy separates the spa-like master bath area from the stateroom.
Another feature, which is unique to Lazzara’s yachts, is the atrium galley with impressive 15-foot ceiling that allows the family to be together no matter where they are on the main deck. The country kitchen offers seating for six with a comfortable breakfast bar that offers another casual dining option. A walk-in utility room with washer, dryer, ironing board and linen storage is also located on the main deck.
Normally, a sport express yacht is equipped with either a sunroof on the main deck or a flybridge. The LSX 92’s innovative design incorporates both a whisper-quiet sunroof that does not raise the decibel level when opened, as well as a fully functioning flybridge thoroughly integrated into the profile. The second helm station flips up for use and the refined seven-foot mast houses the radar sweep and an elegantly styled graphite hardtop. When not in use as a helm, the flybridge functions as a richly appointed sun deck with seating for eight and a generous aft sun pad.
The design team at Lazzara Yachts wanted a contemporary, Art Deco feel for the interior with warm woods juxtaposed with white lacquer and leather surfaces. Marc Gervait, industrial designer at Lazzara Yachts, states the team looked at traditional luggage for inspiration, which resulted in the addition of chrome and leather accents to the furniture. “We designed the interior to be the artwork, instead of simply looking at is as a blank canvas on which to add design touches,” Gervait explains.
As a semi-custom boatyard, the standard layouts of existing yachts can be customized to an extent, including converting bedrooms into other types of rooms. The LSX 92 is available in two different configurations — a European and an American style, which vary in the layout of the main salon. Wood species and finishes, paint colors and floor and counter finishes can all be selected by the client. The built-in furnishing pieces, such as the beds, outdoor tables and teak railings, are made by Lazzara on the premises, but clients can order a wide selection of loose furnishings from outside vendors to complete their individual look.
With a total square footage of just over 2,300 square feet, the 92-foot yacht packs a big punch for such a small space. The LSX 92 offers four staterooms each with its own bathroom, a crew bedroom with the option of two or three beds and a forward deck offering dining for eight around a teak table, a four-person sun pad and advanced sound system for additional entertaining space. An optional outdoor Jacuzzi is also available on the forward deck. The aft deck features another large teak table with seating for eight, a smart bar, food preparation counter and 43-inch pop-up waterproof LDC, along with a retractable graphite shade.
The clients who purchased this prototype yacht were pleased with every aspect, from the highly reflective piano finish of the lacquer to the overall airy feel. When asked what their favorite element was, the resounding answer was the master suite with the Jacuzzi room and Pininfarina-inspired curved shower seat.
